LC falls to Amat

July 02, 2009|By Seth Amitin

Sporting a five-game winning streak over teams like Flintridge Prep and Keppel, the Spartans came into Tuesday’s match up with Bishop Amat with a full head of steam.

But instead of continuing their streak, the Spartans were immediately shot down, 43-33.

Despite the loss, the players and coaches were still pleased with their play.

“I’m tired, but it’s fun,” said point guard and senior-to-be Tia Chen. “We’re feeling pretty good, Amat was pretty good. It’s the beginning of the week. Plus we have conditioning in the morning, we’re getting up at 6 a.m. to run drills, half of us have summer school.”

“[Our players] are just sore,” said Coach Tamar Hill. “They’re playing tired with conditioning, but that’s to prepare them for later in the season.”

Zoe Kumigai was the big star of the game, scoring 12 points and hitting a three-point buzzer beater at the end of the game.

Grace O’Hara had six straight points during the game.

The Spartans play St. Lucy’s at 5 p.m. today, at Arroyo High. They’ll play at South Pasadena on Monday, against Poly at 6 p.m., and Wednesday, against Westridge, also at 6 p.m.

On Tuesday, they’ll play against Duarte at Arroyo High at 6 p.m.
