In the Old Testament, the prophet Elisha’s city was surrounded, and he remarked to his servant, “They that be with us are more than they that be with them.” Through his prayerful approach, his attackers were blinded, and he led them away to return to their own land peaceably. Here is seen that the spiritual parenting of God is universal, nurturing all those concerned, both the would-be assailant and potential victims, those both within the church and outside of it. This prayerful approach is not a pleading with God for protection, but an affirmation of the safety and protection that exists because God exists.
Working prayerfully for church protection is a practical approach that certainly does not ignore key issues. As the ever-presence of divine Love is increasingly recognized, we can expect greater safety in all places of worship, and even the causes behind potential misdeeds to be uncovered and dealt with.
