The couple has three children: Shana (Adam) Elga of Princeton, NJ, Julie (George) O’Brien, of San Francisco, and Andrew, a recent Stanford University graduate, who will be living in Palo Alto.
Stein works as senior vice president for Capital World Investment, an investment company in Los Angeles and vice chairman of Capital Strategy Research Group.
He decided to offer his services to the committee because he has an expertise in this area and wants to give back to his community.
“I view La Cañada as a wonderful town with a strong sense of community. Its residents are very involved in the community and its organizations and institutions,” Stein said, adding, “I care about sustaining all the good things about La Cañada, including its financial interests and well-being.”
The council returned two Youth Council members, Kandice Jung and Robert Moldafsky to their seats on the council and also appointed Sierra Katow, 14, a freshman at La Cañada High School.
Katow said she’s excited to join the Youth Council, as she has known previous council members and appreciated all the work they accomplished for the community.
In addition to her plans for involvement on the council, Katow was recently elected sophomore class vice president for next year and enjoys her participation with student government at the high school.
She also plays basketball and enjoys creating websites.
“I hope my website-making is something I will be able to help with on the Youth Council. I like to be involved in any way I can and this is a great opportunity to do something for other kids in our community,” Katow said.
This was the last week on the council for outgoing council member Lydia Kay, who recently graduated from Flintridge Preparatory School and will be leaving this fall to attend Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
Kay said she enjoyed her year on the council and especially appreciated the help of the City Council in passing the city’s new tobacco ordinance, which was created by the Youth Council.
“When I first applied for the council last year, I wasn’t sure how much work we could accomplish and if anything we did would really be beneficial. But I wasn’t pleasantly surprised how seriously the City Council took us,” she said, adding, “this was a really great experience for me.”
