JPL’s annual Open House coming up

JPL is preparing for its annual Open House, set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3. Admission and parking are free.

JPL will salute the 40th anniversary of NASA’s Apollo 11 moon landing and will also celebrate the International Year of Astronomy.


All visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as no buses will be provided from JPL parking lots. JPL will provide vans for mobility-challenged guests.

Vehicles entering NASA/JPL property are subject to inspection. Visitors cannot bring weapons, explosives, incendiary devices, dangerous instruments, alcohol, illegal drugs, pets, all types of skates including skateboards, Segways and bicycles. No bags, backpacks or ice chests are allowed, except small purses and diaper bags.

Healthy Kids Day is this Saturday

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, the Crescenta-Cañada and Verdugo Hills Family YMCAs are celebrating Healthy Kids Day at Two Strike Park on Rosemont Avenue in La Crescenta, with games, food and fun on the schedule.

Registered YMCA campers can pick up their free “The Incredible Race” T-shirts at the park. Everyone is welcome to this event which will include a jumper, climbing wall, games, program demonstrations, face painting, and a splash zone. For more information call (818) 790-0123.

The event is held to encourage families to embrace a more active lifestyle. Through the Y’s initiative, Healthy Family Home, families have open to them resources for incorporating healthy living into their own homes. These resources can be found on
