We can also continue the spirit so evident in the Christmas season and do what we can to assist those less fortunate than ourselves. There are so many ways we can participate in our community and help others, ranging from becoming directly involved in community organizations, including churches, to indirectly providing financial assistance. This not only provides the satisfactions of doing good, but also helps to unself our own desires, making way for inspiration and opportunity that exemplifies “the kingdom of God” in our own experience.
Carried to the national and international level, such an approach leaves no issues untouched. Let us trust that governments the world over will work increasingly for the benefit of everyone, to resolve longstanding conflicts, eliminate hardships, remove prejudice and injustice, provide a more stable environment for commerce, and ensure a healthy future for our planet, thereby more closely expressing God’s kingdom on earth.
There is much to be done. As stated over a hundred years ago by Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science, mankind is capable of demonstrating “that the atmosphere of the human mind, when cleansed of self and permeated with divine Love, will reflect this purified subjective state in clearer skies, less thunderbolts, tornadoes, and extremes of heat and cold; that agriculture, manufacture, commerce, and wealth should be governed by honesty, industry, and justice, reaching out to all classes and peoples.”
