Thursday Club to host ‘Casino Night’

The La Cañada Thursday Club will host Casino Night, a philanthropic fundraiser that includes dinner and Las Vegas-style table games, on Saturday, Nov. 15, it was announced by Mary Hennessy, president of the Thursday Club, and Lorie Mackenzie and Dotty Greenawalt, co-chairpersons of the event. Proceeds will support the Thursday Club’s ongoing philanthropic activities within the community.

Casino Night, the club’s annual fall fundraiser, will be held at the clubhouse, which is located at 4440 Woodleigh Lane in La Cañada. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and the opening of the table games. A buffet dinner will be served at 8:30 p.m. and gaming will continue until 10:30 p.m. when prizes will be awarded. Everyone can be a winner as professional dealers and instructors will be on hand to teach patrons how to play games such as blackjack, roulette, craps and Texas hold’em poker.

The event will feature wonderful opportunity prizes including vacation getaways, rounds of country club golf, dinner and preferred seating at the Pasadena Pops at Descanso Gardens and the Symphony at The Pasadena Civic, Christmas Tea at the Athenaeum, gas cards and more.

The Casino Night benefit committee also includes Malak Pederman and Roberta Raffaelli. Tickets for Casino Night are $70 each and reservations may be made by calling Dotty Greenawalt at (626) 793-5491. The La Canada Thursday Club is a social, cultural and philanthropic organization, which was founded in 1912 to reach out to the community to assist charitable, non-profit groups and to further youth in their education.

Nonprofit receives sizable grants

Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services, one of the largest, nonprofit, private children’s mental health and welfare agencies in Los Angeles County, announced it has received grants totaling nearly $190,000, all from Southern-California based foundations.
