Malone has been an agent in the Foothill Boulevard office for about seven years. She said she’s confident her current listings will be sold prior to her moving on to another office, although, she admitted, “A year goes by very quickly.”
Officials at MacGregor Realty didn’t return phone calls seeking comment about the impending transaction and the MacGregors’ planned retirement.
MacGregor Realty has been in business for 32 years, Malone said.
MacGregor is the latest in a growing list of longtime area real estate firms that have either closed their doors or merged with other companies in recent months.
Pasadena Foothills Association of Realtors President Rick Stever said that’s pretty much expected in today’s real estate market.
“There have been some changes, and obviously, the current market has made things difficult on a lot of businesses, particularly on some of the well-recognized long term businesses, such as you have in the La Cañada area,” Stever said. “The larger companies with more agents have become more predominant,” he added.
Stever mentioned Kielholtz Realty being bought out by Dickson Podley and Ellis Realty being purchased by Dilbeck Realtors.
“It’s a natural ebb and flow,” Stever said. “In those situations sometimes some well-established names are bought up by other well-known names. And, the level of service doesn’t change, just the names. It may be a different name, but the same Realtors will continue to give the same level of service that’s expected in an area such as [La Cañada].”
