Cubs win Babe Ruth

June 19, 2008|By Bill Stoner LCJBSA

The Cubs led by Ryan McAleenan’s two hit pitching gem held on to defeat the Cardinals 5-2 to win the Babe Ruth championship.

Brad Stoner drove in the game winning hit with a bases loaded double as the Cubs exploded for five runs in the fourth inning. Sean Fitzpatrick had an outstanding game and series behind the plate and anchored an excellent Cub defense.

Kevin Stoner, Mitch Reynolds and Peter Gilmour all made excellent defensive plays in the infield to keep the Cardinals from scoring. The “web gem” was Nick McMenamin’s running catch in center field with two outs and runners at second and third.

Jack Anderson, Chris Green and Joey Multari all played well and contributed to the championship run for the Cubs.
