Three St. Bede School students were recently honored with the student fo the month award. Ian Bogert, Monica Pernecky and Natalie Larsen were chosen for their outstanding Christian service to the community. They will be awarded with a certificate and a special lunch with the school’s principal.

La Cañada Flintridge Library, part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library, will be celebrating Children’s Book Week in November by conducting its 28th Annual Bookmark Contest with the support of Pentel of America, Ltd.

This year’s theme is Rise Up Reading!

Children are invited to participate in the Bookmark Contest at La Cañada Flintridge Library.

Entry forms are now available.

Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, and neatness.

Entries will be accepted in the following categories: kindergarten, grade two, three, five, six and eight.

Deadline for entries is Oct. 27.

Winners will be selected from each category and will advance to regional contests. The bookmarks will be distributed at local County Library branches in spring 2008.

Attention, anime and manga otaku.

For kids ages 13 and up, join the LCF Anime Club at the La Cañada Flintridge Library. Watch new anime episodes, enjoy refreshments and have fun with friends. Anime DVDs will be shown Tuesdays, at 4 p.m. on Oct. 16 and 30, Nov. 20 and Dec. 4.

Oct. 29 is the deadline for applications to the 2008 Miss La Cañada Flintridge contest.

An informational meeting for interested girls and their parents will be offered at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at La Cañada Flintridge Country Club.

Cosponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the La Cañada Junior Women’s Club, the competition is open to girls in their junior year of high school who are residents of La Cañada Flintridge. Applicants will be judged on personality, poise and communication ability, as well as special achievements and community service.

The winning queen will be awarded a $500 scholarship, and four princesses will each receive a $250 scholarship. The court will represent the city at various local functions throughout the year.
