Sign-ups Underway for Memorial Weekend's Croquet Tournament

Entry forms are now available to sign up for the annual Memorial Weekend Croquet Tournament sponsored by the Lanterman Historical Museum Foundation. The deadline for registration is Saturday, May 19

The event, sanctioned by the United States Croquet Association, will open at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 26 in La Cañada's Memorial Park; finals will be held on the afternoon of Sunday, May 27 at Lanterman House, 4420 Encinas Drive.

The tournament will feature an adult doubles (participants 15 years and older) division and an adult and child (children 8 years and older) division. Both groups will have champion and open brackets.

New this year is a pro package that includes a U.S. Croquet Association 9 Wicket Croquet membership with your team registration. Benefits include: membership card; the USCA quarterly Croquet News; rule, technique and strategy support from the USCA website, and notice of an eligibility to play in sanctioned USCA 9 Wicket Croquet Tournaments. Pro package fee of $35 includes tournament registration.

Single elimination play will begin Saturday, May 26, at 9 a.m. for adult doubles competition and at noon for adult and child teams. Matches will run approximately 30 minutes and winners must be available to continue as scheduled throughout the day. The finals May 27 at Lanterman House begin with the adult division hitting off at 1 p.m. and the adult-child division starting at 2:30 p.m. Winners will be honored at a 5 p.m. awards reception in the Lanterman House patio.

Entry forms are printed in the Valley Sun and are also available at the Lanterman House Visitors Center, 4420 Encinas Drive. Registration is $20 per team or $35 per team for the pro package. Deadline for registration is Saturday, May 19. For more information call 790-1421.
