PTA Reflections Winners Announced

February 01, 2007|By Elaine La Marr

Students in the La Cañada Unified School District who wanted to express themselves and receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts had an opportunity to show off their talents through the Annual Arts Reflections Program. The 2006-2007 Reflections theme was "My Favorite Place." Students were asked to think about what it meant to them and then put those thoughts and creativity into an original piece of artwork in one of six categories: musical composition, literature, photography, visual arts, dance choreography and film/video production.

Four students earning first place for best interpretation at the First District PTA level have advanced to the State PTA level.

They are Elle Peterson, La Cañada Elementary, grade two, film/video production; Maya Sahai, Palm Crest, grade 2, literature; Alissa Winter, Palm Crest, grade 5, literature; and Kara Bradley, La Cañada Elementary, grade 2, dance.

Over 60 students placed at the La Cañada Council level and will be honored in March at a reception to be held at the La Cañada Unified School District office.

According to Mary Anne Lantieri, La Cañada High School Reflections chairperson, this annual arts program, which began in 1969, annually allows over 700,000 students to express themselves in various categories as defined by program rules.

In its 30-year history, millions of students have participated in the program. Students in grades seven to 12 are eligible to receive scholarships.
