Flintridge Prep's Stein, Rodli Make All CIF Teams

June 29, 2006

Matt Stein of Tujunga and Mark Rodli of La Cañada Flintridge were both named to All-CIF Teams for baseball.

Stein was named to the Division VI First Team and Rodli to the Division VI Second Team.

Stein, who was also voted Most Valuable Player of the Prep League and First Team All-Star, had an outstanding season on the mound and in the field. He went 5-3 with an earned run average of 2.65 with 89 strikeouts in 48 innings.

One of Stein's season highlights was pitching a 15- strikeout win against archrival Pasadena Poly to lead the Rebels to their first victory in 15 games against the perennial baseball powerhouse. Stein also led the Prep League in batting with a .537 average. He will play baseball next year at UC Davis.

Rodli was also named to First Team Prep League and First Team All-Star. He was asked to play catcher for the first time in his senior year and responded with a .983 fielding percentage. He also batted .417 and was second in the league with 29 runs batted in from the clean-up position.

Rodli will play baseball next year at Washington University in St. Louis.

Both Stein and Rodli have played baseball together since the third grade on the La Cañada Junior Baseball All-Star team, including a memorable 12-year old campaign where they lost in the semifinals in the Cooperstown Tournament.

That team still holds the record for the best performance by a La Cañada Flintridge team in Cooperstown, with a 10-1 record.
