Local Team to Host Jump Rope Open

La Cañada's own Jump Rope Team, the Palpitating Panthers, will host the Amateur Athletic Union California Open Jump Rope Tournament this Saturday, May 13, in the North Gym at La Cañada High School.

This is the tenth time this qualifier for the AAU Junior Olympic Games has been held here in La Cañada. The AAU Junior Olympic Games will be held in Hampton Roads, Va. in August and the first annual West Coast AAU Junior Olympic Games will be held at UC Davis in July.

Six teams from Oregon, Northern California and Southern California are participating, including 30 Palpitating Panthers.

The age divisions are 8 years old and under, 9 and 10 years old, 11 and 12 years old, 13 and 14 years old, 15-17 years old and 18-22 years old. Events include speed, power, and freestyle (to music) in individual rope singles and individual rope pairs and Double Dutch.

The competition begins at 9 a.m. and continues throughout the day. Pizza lunch will be served at noon. Spectators are welcome. There is no admission charge.
