Dealer Donates Cars for Tourney

The second annual Andrew Torres Memorial Golf Tournament received a huge boost this week with the addition of not one, but two, hole-in-one opportunities for golfers when Star Ford and Star Chrysler Jeep, both members of the Star Auto Group in Glendale, announced they will sponsor the April 3 event at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club.

"We are thrilled with the support that Star has extended the tournament this year," said Anita Brenner Torres, Andrew's mother. "Star Chrysler Jeep, in conjunction with Chrysler Corporation, will provide a 2006 Chrysler 300 as a Hole-in-One prize. Star Ford will provide a two-year lease on a 2006 Ford Mustang convertible automobile."

Andrew Torres died April 3, 2004 when he was 23, following a courageous battle with cancer. Torres graduated from Flintridge Prep in 1998 and from the Naval Academy in 2002. He was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps as a second lieutenant, following in his father's footsteps.

On April 9, the Secretary of the Navy awarded Torres the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for "Personal and professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties and for displaying remarkable courage and inspirational leadership in the face of overwhelming medical challenges.

"His willingness to engage and support new and innovative treatment programs played an important role in the development of cancer research."

There are still spaces open for golfers to participate in this outstanding event. In addition to the hole-in-one events, there will be a live auction as well as silent auction items. Non-golfers are invited to attend the dinner and auction.
